The correfoc (“fire-runs”) in Barcelona takes place at the end of september every year during the La Merce festival. The tradition was first documented in 1150 but it has evolved during the centuries to become more of a parade. The symbolism is built upon the devils which are basically being sent back to hell with a last indulgment in fireworks and crackers. There’s also several groups of drummers and except for rhytmic sounds they also transport the charts with unused fireworks.

Everything else is just life support.
Caught up in his own despair, contemplating whether he’d choosen the right path. He was intrigued by the beauty of living in the moment, but his mind kept wandering around in circles. Facing mortality he realized there was nothing to loose, hence all the craze almost made sense.
It’s not laziness that kills our souls but the apathy and that feeling of insignificance. What’s the point? By age and experience the islands seems to appear more rarely, at least if we’ve reached a certain level of comfort. Shaking things up is one way to escape the boredom, acceptance another. Or just lots of beer and fireworks.
